About The Role

We are currently looking for an experienced Car Mechanic / Vehicle Technician / MOT tester to join our busy Taunton Autocentre on a full-time basis.

The desired candidate will possess the skills and experience to carry out all aspects of light vehicle maintenance including light and heavier engine work.

The ideal Car Mechanic / Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester will possess:

– NVQ Level 3 or Equivalent / Time Served Experience
– A valid class 4 and 7 MOT testing licence
– A Full UK driving licence with no more than 9 points (you will be subject to licence checks)
– Experience in a professional workshop environment
– A good approach to customer service
– Flexibility towards working hours (40-48 hours per week)

Working week: minimum of 37.5 hours per week + overtimes paid at premium rate

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 24hr rota – 3 x 12 hour shifts per week, either 06:00-19:00 or 18:00-07:00

We are now seeing to recruit 2 Commercial Motor Vehicle Mechanics with commercial vehicles mechanical experience to work for a dynamic leader in providing safe, reliable and cost-effective repair workshop service to commercial vehicles, HGV and vans.

Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities in this role will be the maintenance and repair of a wide range of fleet vehicles.
You’ll be expected to be proficient in a number of areas including: electrical, mechanical and hydraulic fault diagnosis, basic welding and metal working, if authorized. Setting and operating of machine tools and equipment, if authorized vehicle testing duties, when suitably qualified

Essential Skills include:
Mechanical or electrical qualifications
A minimum of one year’s commercial experience working as a Vehicle Technician
Full driving licence with no drink-driving convictions within the past 5 years
Experience of working on a wide range of cars and commercial vehicles
English at communicative level

Responsibilities:
Repair and maintenance of a fleet of vehicles
Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy
Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems
Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s specifications
Diagnose faults and malfunctions
Repair and maintenance of: electrical systems, alignments, steering and suspension, hydraulic systems, cooling and heating systems and drive train components
Perform scheduled maintenance services
Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts
Road tests vehicles when required
Keeps shop area neat and clean after each repair
Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
Must be willing and able to work various shifts
Must be willing and able to work overtime when required

About you
You will be motivated, flexible, adaptable and able to work well under pressure
Used to working in a fast paced and very busy environment with the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines. Youre effective at planning and creating work schedules
A basic knowledge of mechanics and technical vehicle inspection would be advantageous
Youll need to be comfortable using computers, tablets and hand held devices and have a good knowledge of operating Microsoft Office
Good verbal and written communications skills
Experience of delivering a great customer experience in a face to face environment
